Big Fish Music has lashed out at unscrupulous music promoters, who are taking advantage of Hlengiwe Mhlaba’s name to promote gospel shows around the country.
This comes after posters were spotted on the streets of Polokwane in Limpopo advertising the multi-award winning songstress as one of the artist to perform at a planned revival crusade.
Big Fish Music’s marketing director, Bigboy Mlangeni told Sunday Times that the organisers never approached Big Fish Music or Hlengiwe, who had only been booked to perform at Polokwane’s Cosmo Leisure.
“Big Fish Music calls on churches and music promoters to stop using artists’ names for wrong reasons as it is damaging to their careers” he told Sunday Times’s Godfree Mandiwana.
“Hlengiwe takes her fans very seriously and does not make promises that she can’t keep. It is theft to use artist’ names without clearance” he added.
Hlengiwe who is loved by thousand of event goers, started her professional career with Big Fish Music about a 5 years ago. Her debut album Dwala Lami achieved gold status and established her as one of the major driving forces behind South African gospel music.
Based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, the 36 year-old has recently won a South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best South African Contemporary Gospel and a Gospel Crown Award for best Classic Gospel Song.

Big Fish Music is true when a music promoters use an artists’ names unnecessary it is damaging to their careers. So, we need to stop this.

i just saw David Sejake’s comment now, i know this young man. I got an opportunity to listen to his music when he sings in and around Soweto. he is really talented and dedicated to preaching God’s word throught music. i realy pray God will help him. He realy needs a chance to prove himself. the Sejake family are realy talented.

I read with concern that every body wants to be helped to sing or do an album. Let me tell you one thing about the music industry whether in gospel, rock,Kwaito it does not matter, no one will come to you and say come let me help you to be a star and do you know why? It’s because every company wants to make sure that they get returns on investment, Hlengiwe is an artist of Big Fish Music and Big Fish Music invested a lot of money to make Hlengiwe who she is today so guys tell me, do you think Bid Fish Music can afford to produce another Hlengiwe so soon? I don’t think so because it will not make business sense. My advise to you is not new but people always want the easy way out which in the music industry does not work. Here is my advise, go out there and create you own identity, make your own noise in a way that you can not be ignored, know your music and follow up on whats new, always place yourself in places where it is likely that you might be seen hopefully by someone that will give you that break. Never under estimate your crowd no matter how small your audience is, always do your best because you never no who is watching. But making please on the internet will not help you at all because to anyone who is reading here it’s like you are all the same and must he pick any one of you? What is it that makes any one different from the other?
