Deborah Fraser rocks Zim

South African gospel singer Deborah Fraser was spreading God’s word with her famed melodious voice in Zimbabwe this past weekend, the same weekend that DJ Cleo and US superstars Brick & Lace performed in the country.

The songstress performed for an amped crowd in Bulawayo on Friday before going to Harare, where she also attracted a huge crowd. Promoters had run a massive campaign about her visit, distributing thousands of flyers, putting up posters all over Harare and Bulawayo, and branding vehicles with information about her two shows in the country.

Born in 1966 in KwaMashu in the KwaZulu Natal province, Fraser started singing at school. Initially staying in Durban, she moved to Johannesburg, in the Gauteng province in 1985 to seek for greener pastures in the recording industry. She started out working with composer, singer and gospel producer Mthunzi Namba who also hails from her province. She rose to prominence after announcing that she was the voice being used in many songs that were only credited to the late Brenda Fassie.

To date, she has sold more than a million units and won many accolades including the prestigious Best Female Crown Gospel Music Award. Her latest album, uThando features a host of popular musos including, Sello “Chicco” Twala, Sipho Sithole, Master Wakes and Abe Sibiya. Unlike her previous solo albums, uThando is an Afro-pop offering based on secular themes.

  7. joy Says:

Sleak ‘o Sleak, her over-bought albums are probably collecting dust in music stores, only a few individuals are likely to say “here’s my dabra cd”. Selling 100 000 copies does not literally mean 100 000 people have it in their homes. I still emphasize, debs music is ill.

  8. zukiswa Says:

  15. Fusi Says:

I’l tell you what Joy is: Jealous Ordinary hYpocrite. No one, I mean NO ONE in the entire planet professes Debz’ voice. I think i would kill for this virus as pe Joy. Gal, gues what? It infected me and i dont need a cure but I want more and more of it every day. DEBORAH, we love you no matter who says what. You go, lovely Fraser.

  16. sleak Says:

yes fusi tell them debs s voice is second none…oooh joy judging by yo description of yoself u r my type of gal lol…..

  17. zukiswa Says:

eish joy, id wish that 2 hey, im sure we wud be having smiles on our faces all day…. hey kitchen girl, n she turns to be a garden boy!! how hillarious is that ? ei bt 4 me rebeca rocks… i like her funny spirit n more when she sucks the news form her guests…. i remember 1 day there was deborah at gospel time, yoh rebeca was like sisi kwenzenjani ake u sicalele kuthi whhat happend.. si bona emaphepheni bethi manigeria… tell us sisi…

  18. sleak Says:

yah vele ungu mamgobhozi urebecca…btw udebz is getting married this december that will b her 3rd marriage….does anyone have a clue abt her forthcmng album?

  19. Nomusa Says:

Guys, guys, guys, mina i would say no one is perfect so we cant expect these people to be what we want them to be…Lets support u Debz noma engena direction nje. As for Ribz i just hate it when she sucks izindaba zabantu to be heard by the whole Sounth Africa engathi yena umsulwa akanasici, uzikhishiswa ubani yena ezakhe…But ke afterall asibasupporteni bantu…

  20. Joy Says:

Fusi, yima ngamatshe, I wasnt fighting nana :) , Im just saying it like it is. I dont like Deb’s songs period! They dont build me, they dont put me in a spiritual mode. They are plain and dumb for me, my opinion skatie.

Sleak, :p usile wena :’) hahaha.

Zukiswa, nam’ uRibs ngithanda nje kuphela ipersonality yakhe ehlanyayo. Kodwa vele like Sleak said, Ribs is mamgobhozi. And whenever there is that Deborah Fraizer aka “Miss White Sackcloths” on the show, uRebecca ants to suck up izindaba from her, furthermore, uRibs will try to dress up in an expensive suit to outshine uMiss Star White herself, how sick!
And naye ke uMiss lo, will try to wear a new White garment that Rebecca does not know, and both will be looking at each other soooo awkwardly engathi bayaghalelana. Sies labogogo :D they are such rivals its even written on their foreheads. S…T…U…P…I…D.

  21. Joy Says:

    Nomusa, hi gal, WELCOME ;)

  22. zukiswa Says:

  28. Sipho Says:

Cha bantwabakethu, let’s forgive her, she is a human being and thus not infallible, it is humankind to err>>>.Yena nje uDebz what she has to do iz living a decent and honest life after all these circumstances leading to her character degeneration.God is unchanging <>,cry mightily to Him, He will help u sort out all these predicaments. After all there is a second chance in life; grab this second chance and remedy all these shortcomings.Luv u mama, keep on singing and revamping ur music, i will support u buy ur copies.
