Joyous Celebration will record their 16th album at Carnival City on 15 December.

“Just before everyone drives out of Johannesburg to their various holiday destinations, we felt that this would be a better way to get them into the festive season singing songs of praise with us just for one last time this year,” said co-founding member Lindelani Mkhize.

Mkhize said the recording would feature new members selected from auditions held around the country last year.

“For Joyous 16, we shift the focus to the literal meaning of ‘joyous celebration.’ We want to rejoice and revel through music. The sound is going to be more light-hearted with a lot of sing-alongs and ensembles within the big group,” he added.

The band recently wrapped up its 2011 tour with a well-received concert at the Ayoba Festival at Montecasino.

Tickets to the concert are priced between R150 and R300 and can be booked via Computicket or any Shoprite/Checkers outlet.

Album Title:Gijima Nkosi
Genre: Gospel
Year of Release: 2011

Gijima Nkosi is the second solo album from popular gospel musician Buhle Nhlangulela. The album was produced by prolific record producer Mxo Mhlongo. It is predominantly performed in Zulu and features 13 well-rounded gospel tracks.

The album opens with its title track ‘Gijima Nkosi’, which is arguably Buhle’s best effort on the entire offering. Performed in Zulu, the song asks God to look at all the social ills in today’s society. An up-tempo song, ‘Gijima Nkosi’ features contributions from talented backing vocalists Khumbu Cele and Cebo Nkwanyana, who add a lot of charisma to the whole project.

It is never a good idea to open an album with its best track, but Buhle manages to keep the listener captivated all the way. Her thoughtful writing makes every track worth a listen. She decides to slow things down on the second track, ‘Wethula Umthwalo’, a precious ballad that gives listeners a lot to think about. Powered by a thought-provoking mix of string and piano, Buhle elevates her praises, counting all the blessings she has received from God.

Her first English track comes at slot seven and is titled ‘You’re faithful’. On this one, the producer consciously maintains a chilled beat, giving Buhle all the space she needs to nail her points. Her message is clear; “God is faithfull each and every day.”

Other noteworthy tracks to look out for include “Woza Moni Odangele”, ‘Ndiye’ and ‘Morwalo’.

However, from an industry standpoint, the only concern is that producers seemingly used the same instruments throughout, making the album somewhat monotonous. But that does not take a lot of heat out of this disk. Buhle’s charismatic writing and vocal work masks almost every flaw on this project.
