Back in 2003, members of the Tableview Assembly of God (TAG) church established a rock band called Proxy in Cape Town. Seeking to spread the word of God through catchy rock songs, they made their music industry debut with an album titled Feather rain. Six years down the line, they now have four acclaimed rock albums to their credit and an ever-growing fan base. This year, the 70-member band’s latest offering, The Call, was named the best gospel rock album of 2009 at the Crown Gospel Music Awards.
Soon after the ceremony, we spoke with Proxy’s Carol Blake, a talented singer who also heads the church’s worship team.
Q: How do you feel about this accolade?
A: We feel really honoured to hold this title. We were totally blown away by the announcement that our album was the best this year.
Q: How does one qualify to be a member of this band?
A: They have to be a member of our church and in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We also look for a certain level of musicianship.
Q: Who writes your songs?
A: All our songwriters are from our worship team and we frequently meet to write songs as a team.
Q: How did you come up with the name Proxy?
A: To stand proxy means to stand on behalf of someone so we thought this was a great name for a worship band.
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: We are writing new songs and planning to record a live worship album next year.
Q: Which local musicians have you been listening to lately?
A: Our team really enjoys The Arrows and CJ.
Q: Where is Proxy performing this festive season?
A: We have an amazing Carol Service at our church on 20 December.
Q: How can Proxy fans get in touch with the band?
A: They can call me on 021 557 3948 or email us at info@proxyworship.com. We also have a website: www.proxyworship.com and facebook account: Proxy Worship.

I precisely needed to thank you so much yet again. I’m not certain the things that I might have undertaken in the absence of those solutions discussed by you on my problem. It previously was a intimidating setting in my view, but witnessing the professional way you dealt with the issue forced me to weep for gladness. Extremely happy for the information and as well , believe you really know what an amazing job you happen to be getting into training men and women via your webblog. Probably you’ve never got to know any of us.
