Cape Town’s rising stars – The Gugulethu Tenors – will be performing at On Broadway, one of the city’s legendary theatres, on Sunday 20 June 2010. This will be one of the first performances at On Broadway which has taken over the old “New Space Theatre” in Long Street.
“We are really looking forward to this performance; just a couple of years ago it was only a dream for us to be performing in venues such as On Broadway, and now it’s really happening.”, says Mpendulo Yawa. “We love sharing our music, and can’t wait to talk to the audience at On Broadway through our songs”.
The Tenors will also be adding their voices to the 2010 World Cup, by performing at various Fan Parks around the city. The group which consists of Mpendulo Yawa, Siyabulela Gqola, Xolani November and Loyiso Dlova, was chosen by PANSA as one of a handful of performers to represent Cape Town during the World Cup.
Their performance will start at 20:30, and will include opera favourites such as “O Sole Mio”, “Nessun Dorma” and “The Prayer”.
Over the years, the Tenors have captured the hearts of audiences across the world. They’ve performed to politicians, dignitaries and celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock and Mariah Carey. At the 2006 Oprah Party, guests were blown away, and Oprah said she was touched by their sincere performance and humble beginnings.
In February last year, they won the Kaap Rapport Choir Competition, held annually as part of the “Suidoosterfees”.
Tickets are selling at R75 each. For bookings, call their agent on 021 424 1194/5.
