Jay Hlungwani was a great pastor and artist

It is sad that the talented Jay Hlungwani, a gospel artist and pastor, is no longer with us. Jay, as he became famously known in the Gospel music industry, was a dedicated son of God who helped those in need and used his music to unite people.

Hlungwani’s passing was described by his father, Pastor Phillip Hlungwani as shocking and painful.

He was also a songwriter and producer who lead the Miracle Valley Ministries in Polokwane and became well-known for his kindness and commitment to God. Those who were close to him described him as an understanding and humble person who would go out of his way to help others.

In the music industry, Hlungwani showed his impressive talent when he started releasing his own gospel music albums. It was through his talent that he got nominated for many South African music awards, including SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards.

Not only was the late involved in Gospel ministries, he also worked with many prominent music producers and artists including Maduvha Madima and house music Mothiba twin brothers, Revolution, who always featured him on their house gospel compositions.

Talking to the other half of Revolution, George, he said Hlungwani was one of the most talented people he had ever worked with. “Jay was a very upfront person, if he didn’t like something, he would say it right away.”

According to George, even words can’t explain the talent Hlungwani imbued. “He was a very humble individual, man of God and successful business man, he concludes.”

Hlungwani was buried in Limpopo Province, Giyani last Friday (06 November 2009). Even though it is not easy to accept that he is no longer with us, let’s cherish the brief time we were given to spend with him. This is a great loss and he will be sorely missed. Let his great music plays on so his soul may rest in peace…

My favourite singer in the entire world. In Australia we get no info on SA music so it is only through our own heard searches that we have anything. To hear this incredible voice is a blessing unsurpassed by any one. To ever have met him or worked with him or be preached to by this man of God – I can only imagine. What a terrible, painful loss. Prayers for his wife and family. If anyone knows where I can find his albums (I only have Ekukhanyeni) or DVDs please share. My son in law had the pleasure of singing with him a few years ago but sadly that was out of our reach. RIP man & voice of God

its realy hard to loose someone you love the pain is so unbearable even when people comfort you they cant get thru the heart,i lost my father and my best friend within two weeks, i can imagine how hard it is for mrs hlungwani all i can say is that time will heal as god is our comforter . its not an esay road. you had good plans the two of you and the thought of thinking you will grow old together raise children and the grand-children but i guess we have to allow Gods will in our lives

  28. Faith Says:

My pastor, you have gone too soon to be with our maker but we cannot question God for his will. I know you are happy where you are because that is where happiness is: no sickness, pain, suffering nor 35 degrees heatness. I still remeber the last day I saw you as if it was yesterday, it was in church and we have’nt seen each other in days, you were with your wife and I was amazed that you noticed I have’nt been in church for quite a while as I have been travelling to home most weekends. You were so happy to see me and I had no clue I was seeing you for the last time. If only I knew, I would have asked God not to take you away from us, especially your wife.

    Rest in peace my pastor.

  29. Rabe Hlungwani Says:

  31. Pastor Simon Motau Says:

I had just met you and the experience was so powerful and unbelievable at the same time, your humility and sense of humour still challenge me to this day. Paul puts it so nicely in Phil 1:21 when he says ” for me to live I know it’s Christ and for me to die I know it’s gain” Though you are gone heaven has gained a citizen and we believe that as we live we shall surely join you one day and as you said ” Cherubim, Seraphim zimana zi memeza njalo, zi thi ncwele u yi ncwelw Jehovah Thixo we minyaka” we shall only sing in worship and praise to God. I love you brother. Enjoy God’s peace in Paradise
