Controversial gospel hip hop artist Jub Jub was driving one of the two Mini Coopers that mowed down four teenagers in an illegal street race yesterday, Johannesburg Metro Police confirmed today.
At around 4pm, Jub Jub, real name Molemo Maarohanye, and an unnamed friend were racing each other along Mdlalose Street in Protea Glen, Soweto, when they lost control of their Mini Coppers and swept aside six schoolboys walking on the pavement.
The horrific accident claimed the lives of four matric pupils and left two others critically injured. The pupils were aged between 17 and 19.
A witness at the scene said one of the mini coopers had a sticker with Maarohanye’s nickname written on it. The witness said Maarohanye’s manager, Jeff Maranela, tried to remove the sticker, but police pushed him away before he could.
Police said they were not sure if it was Maarohanye’s vehicle or the other one that struck the teens.
An angry mob of community members who witnessed the horrific accident descended on both drivers and threatened to kill them, forcing police to intervene to save their lives.
Both drivers were arrested at the scene and officers say they are undergoing tests to establish whether they were under the influence of drugs.
This morning, the rapper’s facebook fan page was abuzz with messages from disappointed fans.
“My man, you really disappointed me & your fans at large!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish you good luck with the case, as you will be facing the law Morena,” wrote one disappointed fan.
“M not gona go back n forth on this one…u r a murderer. I really do hope the law takes its cause on you. I can only imagine the pain that the families of those boys are going thru right now,” wrote another angry fan.
Jub Jub and his friend will appear in court later this week, on charges of reckless and negligent driving and four counts of culpable homicide.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the the four boys, may the other two recovery speedily and enjoy great blessings through their spared lives. To Jub Jub and Friend, may you rot in prison, for no amount of apologies, regret or remorse will give back these families what they have lost, you will not nearly go through what these families are experiencing while you sit in a cell, i do believe that it is big enough to compress that ego of yours, down to size…Its about time anyway! Ikageng, the thing is drag racing is alive and kicking here in soweto and nobody cares. Even the cops does nothing abt it, it is seen as a cool fun thing of which i think is not. Even in my str we dont have any speed humps, and we,ve been asking our councelor since 2003, i just hope he wont just walkaway free becs of his celeb status. No one is above the law..

We supported JUBJUB by buying his production and promoting the sales of our black brother, only to find that with the very same money he accumulated from sale of his CD bought a Mini Cooper to kill the very same people that are his fans “Aag siesss maan”. Music promotion Agency music retail shops should stop promoting and selling Jubjub production. All his music CDs should be recalled and be burned, simple.

Hand them over to the community and the families that these two idiots wrecked. Let the community have its justice, the police are going to say you very naughty and put them behind bars for awhile. It doesnt matter if you a local celebrity it does not mean that you carry on like you want. There are many deaths from illegal drag racing…personally these people involved should be whipped, stripped of all dignity, banned for life, thrown in a cell and look at the pictures of their victims for the remainder of their lives.

What happened to those young boys was very tragic,i can imagine how painful it is to their families,they were robbed their future & it is fair for people to be angry with parties involved but lets not forget anger will not take us anywhere lets try to forget what happen & support the famalies as much as we can.Its only God who will decide what happens to Jub-jub & his friend.

Itumeleng stop thinking with your heart and trying to be a populist because you make you say what youthink everybody wants to hear. FIRst of all what happened to those kids is unfortunate and heart breaking and I cant imagine how I would feel if it was my child but no matter how gruesome this looks and how unacceptable it is, You cannot charge JUB JUB with Murder because there was no intention. He did not get in that car determined to kill people he was just being stupid like many south africans who drive recklessly and most under the influence of alcohol. If you think with your brain you will realise that if they charge him with murder then they must go back and charge Mandoza, Dr Khumalo and many people who were involved in accidents that led to loss of lives.
