Multi-award winning American gospel musician, Shirley Caesar will be back in South Africa next month for what promises to be a thrilling three-day tour.
Caesar who is also known as “The First Lady of Gospel Music” will start her tour at Durban’s International Conference Centre on the 27th of November before heading to Mpumalanga on the 28th and Johannesburg on the 29th. In Durban, she will be supported by South African gospel music heavyweights, Deborah Fraser and Hlengiwe.
Sipho Makhabane, the Church on The Hill Choir, Themba Mdluli, Goodman Mgibe, Benjamin Dube and Solly Mahlangu will join Caesar when she performs at Nelspruit Rugby Stadium in Mpumalanga.
Her tour will end at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg, where she will be supported by Zodwa Twecu, Keke and Redeemed.
Caesar, who is also a Pastor, began her recording career in 1951. Since then, she has recorded over forty albums, exploring her gift and spreading messages of faith. She has participated in over 16 compilations and three gospel musicals. She has been awarded 11 Grammy Awards, 13 Stellar Awards, 18 Doves, 1 RIAA gold certification, an Essence Award, McDonald’s Golden Circle Lifetime Achievement Award, NAACP Achievement Award, SESAC Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

I attended Pastor Shirley Caesar’s concert last night @ The Dome. I am still on a spiritual high even this morning. I enjoyed our local artists’ performance as well. Sis’ Zodwa is such a strong woman of God, fro what she has gone thru and 2 still be able 2 praise God is amazing. Keke is just phenomenal, the way he involves the audience in his performance is amazing, and when he sings worshipping songs.. I just feel as if God is in front of me especially his song ‘Sherobime’. I have that CD, and everytime I feel something is wrong or the Devil is near, I just put the CD on in my car and I worship God.
Pastor Shirley was wonderful as well, we as the audience got involved in her performance and it was lovely. I especially enjoyed ever-energetic Rebecca’s act with Shirley.
This was the first time that I attended a concert that I paid for and I don’t regret it one bit.

I agree- it was an experience- the concert (or should I say the ministry?) was out of this world! Sometimes you go to a show harbouring expectations of a great show but restraining yourself because your experience tell you it’s never as good as the show that’s going on in your mind. But then sometimes you get surprised- because the show becomes better than the show in your mind. This was the case with Pastor Shirley Caesar’s performance on Sunday at The Dome. After two hours I was ready for her to go anytime and when she said ‘I have five minutes…’ I did not feel any regret because since 7.45 we were wrapped in a graceful lifting of the spirit….
