With an elongated string of acclaimed albums under her belt, ZCC member Winnie Mashaba remains one of the most commercially successful musicians in South Africa. Her performance at the Cell C Gospel Fest left thousands of event-goers gasping for more. I spoke with her immediately after the performance.
Eddie Hatitye: I really enjoyed your performance
Winnie: Thanks Eddie
Eddie: How do you prepare yourself for an event like this?
Winnie: Shows are very important to me, we practice a lot before we come on stage and this mainly involves the songs and choreography.
Eddie: What are you working on at present?
Winnie: I’m busy with rehearsals for my next album right now and I’ll start recording early November.
Eddie: Do you have a title for the new album yet? Tell us more about the album.
Winnie: Well, I don’t have a title yet but this album generally focuses on the youth and I aim to encourage them to pursue their goals because with God everything is possible.
Eddie: Any collaborations on this album?
Winnie: I have collaborated with a lot of musicians before but I feel like I need to do this one alone.
Eddie: Where are you performing next?
Winnie: I have a lot of shows in Botswana and I will soon announce dates for my SA tour.

Gospel sensation Sechaba has collaborated with Sipho “Big Fish” Makhabane to craft possibly his best album yet.

Referred to as the icon of hope and faith, Sechaba has over the years become a motivation to both young and old people. But “It’s only through God’s grace” that his life turned out this way, says Sechaba who was once a street kid.

His career started in 2005 when he released his multi-platinum debut album, Sechaba, which was followed by Modimo Oteng (God exists) – another successful offering.

According to Sechaba, the power of prayer is stressed in one of the songs “Jeso Ke Mmoloki waka”. He guarantees that by listening to this track, “One can fully understand the pride one has in God”.

“When you walk with the Lord no evil will harm you under any circumstances,” he explained

Sipho Makhabane produced most of the songs on this soul-shaking album and also helped with vocal work.

Sechaba used the song ‘Oh Mohau’ to pay tribute to Sammy Malete, a gospel musician he admired as a young man.

The album will be released on the 5 October and will prepare you not just for the festive season but for the kingdom of God.
