Gospel singer Strike Moshe aka Moses Tholo is using his music to pay tribute to Vuyo Mokoena, who passed away in 2008. The Pretoria-born muso says his latest album is a tribute to Mokoena, who was very influential in the development of gospel music in South Africa.
Moshe says he recorded his latest song, “Umoya Wami”, with the legendary singer in mind. “Mokoena was a gospel king and I looked up to him. So in the song I am trying to put myself in his shoes, I’m trying to imagine what he was saying to himself when he was in pain in hospital.,” says Moshe.
The song, Umoya Wami features on Moshe’s latest album and doubles as an album title. Influenced by the ZCC church, Moshe has released three albums, all of which have served to cement his popularity in the local gospel music industry.
His album also carries a host of entertaining gospel songs, including “Mdali Wami”, “Izono Zami”, “Thusa Bophelo baka” and “Askies I’m Sorry”.
Moshe has worked with some of the most successful gospel musicians in South Africa including Solly Moholo, Winnie Mashaba and Sinky Mathe. He is also the founding member of one of the most promising Gospel groups in the country, Exodus.

It’s an honour & a privilege to had had this heart touching vessel of God. A perfect instrument that influenced & inspired us to and in the Way of God. Whenever he sung his voice silenced the order of quiet worship, as the Bible saith, ‘Be silent before the Lord & know that He alone is God.’ And to Mrs.Mokoena thank you that instead of had had hindered this vessel’s service, you succumed humbly into praying for him. Thank you Lord for had lend us Vuyo & thank you for his family.

You know, I was watching his latest DVD, and there is this special clip on this DVD. and I was so amazed that none of these artist did something to save his life. The 3,3 million could have been raised with no time. The likes of Rebecca and Joyous kill this man.
Really it is so sad to see such a talent perish like the way he did. Anyway life goes on but someone somehow will have to account for his/her non-action.
Secondly there was never any publicity about the sickness on this poor Vuyo. I mean you can imagine if it was publicised that this guy is sick and this is the amount that we need to raise. I mean we could have done something. His wife now is struggling to get royalties. This industry is very a bad one.

One of the greatest losses of our time, irreplaceable, unrecoverable, a gift to us beyond estimable values while he was here, leaving indellible prints in the sands of time.

He was a legent and still is as His music did not die with Him,he left us a legacy to hold on to God in good times times and in bad times . God prepared Him for what he went through as I have been listening to some of His songs were also a message of comfort, encouragement to hang in there.Go gave Him the strenght that he was gonna need during His suffering to make it safe to His rest still holding on to God.May God grant us strength not stop praying for His wife and kids as the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.be strong Mrs Mokoena , God be with you in raising the kids . God will reward you for being a good wife to Vuyo who was a man after God’s own heart in seeking the Kingdom of God first like David. May you also be a Woman of God after God’s own heart and be like Mary who sat a Jesus feet as He will satisfy your soul with what you will need to stay true to Him .

90% of the inspiration to live 2011 differently came from the lives of Bhuti Vuyo and a friend of mine who also died of cancer at only 32. both these people lived their lives to full and praised, loved and were strengthened by God to the day of death. Bhuti Vuyo’s voice is a voice of a true worshiper. when i listen to him i cant do anything else by realise God’s holiness/uniqueness, his love, his ability. God gave him a voice ability to sing and he used them to draw many to worship. Mama Tebogo, may God carry you and your children in His arms till you see him again. Im sitting here now (12:45 am) and listening to Avulek’ Amazulu cd and I am very reluctant to go sleep because the man was just good!!!!!!

To this day,we are still mourning the death of Vuyo Mokoena. This is also the month he departed from this side to be with the Lord. He was a great man of God, a true worshipper and I am blessed to have met him. Any one who have come in contact with the late Vuyo would know the Grace and aura that oozed around Vuyo, his Big smile is unforgettable.
to Tebogo my friend, stay strong in the Lord, I have learned so much from you about God, how to pray and stay content, our forty day fasting recently has opened my eyes, ears and heart. God is and will always be watching over you and the kids.

When I talk about a singer we talk about Vuyo He was the first one who welcomed me in the music industry
I’m disabled yes but and people are using me to get what they want but he made me realise that there is more to life then to just sit there and feel sorry for yourself .But if you have a talent go show it out there ,it’s my dream to be a gospel artist but I can’t seem to get the right people

I just bought a cd + dvd and I must say I literally cried the entire weekend. To me it felt like I never mourned his death enough. I’m just sad, sad, sad and I ask myself why am I so sad because he is where was telling us in his music he would be. To his wife may God give you abundant strength and thank you for paying tribute so beautifully to your husband. I love all his songs.
